Winterization Assistance through Distribution of Quilts & Sweaters

The project was implemented in Kabul as a large-scale emergency relief and winterization intervention aimed at supporting vulnerable women during the severe winter season. The project focused on addressing immediate seasonal needs by providing essential winter items to women who required additional protection from cold weather conditions. Under the project, a total of 4,000 quilts and sweaters were distributed, reaching 4,000 women across the targeted areas of Kabul. The assistance was intended to provide beneficiaries with practical protection against low temperatures while improving their comfort, safety, and overall well-being during the winter months. The project activities included coordination and preparation for distribution, organization of the targeted beneficiaries, handling and allocation of winterization items, and the orderly distribution of quilts and sweaters to eligible women. Particular emphasis was placed on ensuring that the assistance was delivered efficiently, equitably, and in a timely manner to the intended beneficiaries. Implemented from 15 December 1996 to 15 February 1997, the project provided critical assistance throughout the peak winter period. The intervention was carried out with the support of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) as part of an emergency humanitarian response focused on meeting the immediate winterization needs of vulnerable communities. With a reported project value of 25,000, the intervention represented a significant winter relief effort, combining timely delivery, beneficiary-focused assistance, and organized distribution of essential non-food items. The project contributed to reducing beneficiaries' exposure to harsh winter conditions and strengthening their ability to cope with seasonal challenges. Overall, the project demonstrated effective implementation of emergency relief activities through coordinated distribution, appropriate targeting of vulnerable beneficiaries, and timely provision of essential winterization supplies to 4,000 women in Kabul .
